LINX Printing Technologies Ltd, St Ives

Client: LINX – The Danaher Group
DB&P's Services: Building Services Consultant Engineers

LINX Printing Technologies, part of the international Danaher Group, is a leading provider of specialist printing equipment. Since its formation in 1987, the company has consistently invested a high percentage of turnover into research and development and is one of the industry's top research financiers in relation to turnover. The new headquarters and manufacturing facility in St Ives are testament to LINX’s ongoing commitment to investment; it brings the UK’s ever expanding commercial, engineering, and manufacturing activities together on one super-site.

LINX’s innovative printing technologies are used by organisations across the world – their extensive range of Continuous Ink Jet, Thermal Ink Jet and Thermal Transfer Over Printers are employed in a variety of industries including food/beverages, automotive, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. With Clients in over 100 different countries, it is imperative that the printers are manufactured and tested to provide maximum efficiency and reliability in all climates – the onsite environmental chambers are cable of simulating humidity from 0% to 100% and temperatures from -30oC to 80oC; this is a typical challenge that the Design Team faced on this “one-off” / very unique project.

In order to achieve BREEAM “Excellent” the building and associated mechanical and electrical services were designed to significantly reduce energy consumption / CO2 emissions with a high investment in renewable/sustainable technologies – the project attained an as-built A grade EPC rating.
