Of major consideration was the Grade 1 listed status of the building and the conditions imposed to negate all adverse elements of the M&E services in terms of the visual impact that any equipment / plant would have on the East façade of the College.  This is particularly relevant since the view of the College from Magdalene Bridge is probably one of the most photographed scenes in Cambridge. In this respect the kitchen supply air handling units, extract fans and associated ductwork systems are carefully concealed behind the cleverly designed parapet wall, the line of which blends sympathetically into the contours of the College.  The issues of noise and odour, both much prevalent in a commercial grade kitchen, posed similar problems; however, by specifying the appropriate and good quality equipment these problems have successfully been negated.
