Student Accommodation – Bridge Street, Trinity College, Cambridge
Client: The Master and Fellows of Trinity College, Cambridge
DB&P's Services: Building Services Consultant Engineers

The works to provide additional student accommodation and to refurbish such existing properties to Bridge Street and Jesus Lane have been carefully planned and implemented over a number of strategic phases. The programming of the works was essentially dictated by the College’s need to maintain an adequate supply of bedsit, kitchen, bathroom and shower facilities throughout the year (including the provision for sub-letting to conference delegates).
In this respect, the earlier works concentrated on the renewal / upgrade of the central mechanical and electrical services; including the installation of gas fired condensing boilers, high recovery HWS calorifiers, fire alarm / security systems, IT / data systems, and the integration of BEMS controls.
The initial mechanical and electrical design strategies were developed in conjunction with the College’s in-house Engineers – the principles of which were successfully carried forward to all subsequent phases. More recent works have concentrated on the general refurbishment of the student rooms, with the final stage being the refurbishment of 1-3 Bridge Street which included construction of an additional 3rd floor level, works to the Colleges wine cellar and the provision of a new retail unit “Patisserie Valerie” in-lieu of the infamous “Halfords”.
